As summer kicks off, it’s the perfect time to refresh more than just your wardrobe—it’s also a great time to review your estate plan. Whether you're drafting a will, updating your powers of attorney, or planning for your family's future, staying prepared offers peace of mind all year long.

This week, our Associate Attorney Alyssa Schlafstein is sharing key insights on making sure your estate plan is up to date and aligned with your current life and goals.

Life changes and so should your estate plan. Here are a few quick questions to ask yourself:

1.When Did You Last Update Your Will?

  • If it's been more than 5–7 years, now’s a great time to review it. Make sure it still reflects your current wishes and family situation.

2. Do You Have a Durable Financial Power of Attorney?

  • This essential document gives someone you trust the authority to manage your finances if you're ever unable to do so. If you don’t have one, now is the time to put it in place.

3. Are Your Beneficiaries Current?

  • Double-check that your beneficiaries on retirement accounts, life insurance, and other assets are still accurate and aligned with your intentions.

4. Have There Been Major Life Changes?

You should review your estate plan after events like:

  • Birth of a child or grandchild
  • Marriage, divorce, or separation
  • A new medical diagnosis
  • Significant changes in finances or priorities

Keeping your estate plan current ensures that your legacy is protected and your wishes are honored. If you have questions or are ready to get started, our team is just a call or email away. Let us help you plan with confidence.
