Anne Arundel County Police Beat for Dec. 26

Annapolis
Theft from cars

A Washington, D.C. man was arrested early Christmas morning after he tried to steal catalytic converters from cars at an Annapolis dealership, county police said.

Police said John Marcellius Johnson, 35, was caught by an off-site video security service as he and another man tampered with cars at Fitzgerald Oldsmobile Cadillac on Hudson Street. Officers saw Johnson and another black man, both dressed in dark clothing, run away.

Johnson was caught after he tried to scale a fence and got stuck.
Police said the men entered the lot from Route 50. Officers found bolt cutters and other tools on the lot, plus a tow truck with the engine running parked along Route 50.

Police are looking for the second suspect. Anyone with any information is asked to call Southern District detectives at 410-222-1961.

Man assaulted

City police said a man was assaulted early Saturday morning as he and his girlfriend were getting out of their car on Madison Street.

Police said the couple was approached by three black men who asked them for $40. After the man refused, he directed his girlfriend to drive away.

The trio then attacked him, punching and assaulting him with a glass bottle. They also followed the car, threw a brick into its windshield and tried to rip the doors off, police said.

Police are looking for the suspects.

Teen arrested

City police arrested a 17-year-old from Annapolis and charged him as an adult with robbery, assault and reckless endangerment.

Police arrested Tyrone Dwight Thomas Friday after he and four others approached a man riding a bicycle on Yawl Road. The group demanded money and one of them struck the cyclist with a black and silver handgun.

The investigation continues.

Severn
Man shot

A man was shot in the leg late Saturday while sitting in his Severn home, county police said.

Police said they responded to several calls, one reported hearing numerous gunshots, the other that an 18-year-old man had been shot in the leg.

The victim, who was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, told police that he was inside his residence when he was shot.

Police said they found a vehicle parked in front of the residence that had been shot numerous times and a bullet hole in the front of the home.

A possible suspect was seen running from the area after the shots were fired. Police said that they are searching for a black male wearing a dark jacket, dark colored pants and wore dreadlocks or braided hair.

Brooklyn Park
2 drug arrests

County police raided a Brooklyn apartment Wednesday on a drug search-and-seizure warrant and arrested two people after finding heroin and oxycodone.

Police said they entered the Victory Avenue apartment and seized 33 capsules of heroin and 16 hydrocodone pills along with cash and drug paraphernalia.

Patricia Moore, 48, of that address was charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of oxycodone and paraphernalia, police said.

Ryan Mason, 27, of McDowell Lane in Baltimore County, was charged with possession of paraphernalia.

Moore had been arrested in November on drug possession with intent to distribute charges and was out on $100,000, according to state court records.
